Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House: Home of ‘Little Women’

A few Saturdays ago, I went to Concord with Tonya and Miss M. We visited the Orchard House, home of the Alcotts.

Quote: “The house is most noted for being where Louisa May Alcott wrote and set her beloved classic, Little Women, in 1868 at a “shelf desk” her father built especially for her.”

The Alcotts moved a lot during their lives, but Orchard House was where they lived from 1858 to 1877. It was 2 houses that Amos Bronson Alcott purchased, but moved the smaller farmhouse to the back of the larger house. The family kept journals and this is how a lot of the information from the tour was told to us.

Unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take photos inside the house, so I’ll provide a link to the official website. 80% of the furniture and decorations were owned by the Alcotts, so the rooms looked very much like what they did when the family lived here.

This barn was in the back, but we didn’t go inside

Our tour guide was very informative and we learned a lot about the family.

They had a cute gift shop:
